When James McEnaney returned from serving with the 42nd Rainbow division in World War I, he soon recognized a great demand for companies that could provide specialized services in the post war economic expansion. In 1918 he opened Rainbow Movers in North Attleboro, MA, transporting household goods within southeastern New England using only a single horse and wagon!
James' son, Norman, Sr. took over the operation after World War II, at which time Rainbow Movers operated primarily in New England and along the eastern coast of the US. In 1954, Norman, Sr. wanted to expand Rainbow’s services across the country and into Canada. To accomplish this goal, while maintaining the company's high quality of service, Rainbow Movers became an agent for North American Van Lines and has enjoyed this relationship for over 50 years.
In 1958, Norman, Jr. assumed the responsibility for the day-to-day operations and expanded the business from two trucks and one office/warehouse to over 100 vehicles and three Massachusetts locations. With the expansion of the business, other divisions were formed to include commercial moving, trade show, warehousing, distribution and international relocations.
Today, the fourth generation of McEnaneys, Tim, Erin, Jim and Jon have assumed the operation of the business, continuing to provide excellent service to Rainbow Movers' customers, locally and worldwide. Rainbow Movers has enjoyed steady growth over the years and today ranks among the top 25 of more than 300 agents in the US, a status of which we are justifiably proud.
